Nice little square, flat run. I think I PRed by a few seconds. It was fun to run with a bunch of neighbors and family.

I did something I don't normally do. I ran about 1 1/2 miles to the start to get warmed up. But I can't tell if it made any difference. I had planned to run another few miles afterward. But no, my body said "NO!"

 * Pretty nice Tech Shirt for only a $10 entry fee.

Race: Provo River 1/2 Marathon (13 Miles) 00:02:50

FANTASTIC RACE! It was my first 1/2 marathon. I feel great now that it's over -- butterflies are all gone. I did 12 minute miles through the first 6 miles, then must have slowed to around 14 minutes miles on the second half. Mile 8, 9, and 10 in particular seemed very difficult.

My conditioning has slipped a bit since May when I did the 10 mile run on the same course. I was 5 minutes behind that pace at mile 10. The long hikes I did in July just were not as helpful as the 10 mile slow runs I was doing in April and May.

My hip bothered me a little bit through mile 6 but that pain got drown out by the general soreness and stiffness in my legs. At mile 12 my legs numbed up a bit and was able to speed up some.

Well, there it is; my rambling report. I just got up from a 2 hour nap. On with life.....

Upper body workout at noon.

I took the scouts on a 20 mile bike ride. Starting at the parking lot near the mouth of Provo Canyon, we biked up to Vivian park. The trail was closed due to "maintenance" but after carrying our bikes over the concrete barriers, there was no evidence of any maintenance. It's a shame that part of the trail was closed during the Provo 1/2 marathon because it has some really pretty spots.

Well, anyway, we turned around at Vivian park and followed the trail down almost to Lavelle Edwards Stadium, then back to the parking lot.

Lots of fun. The other two leaders invited me to go biking with them on Tuesday Mornings. They bike the foothill roads behind Micron and sometime go up to the summit over to Draper. They said they knew some other fun trails and I'm going to show them how to get to AF canyon via Adventure and Learning Park trails (my usual Saturday 10 mile run)

1 mile GP 11:40. That cool morning air was a treat. Feels like football season.

10 miles of walk-running. I crossed paths with my brother Ray. He is trying to get back into running after having knee surgery a couple years back. I saw some cliff rose in bloom. I had thought they only bloomed once -- in June.

1 hour cycling. Lloyd, Joel and Shawn showed me some trails around Micron. My legs were burning on the uphill but cooled down on the dirt trails. I had to take it slow because I have street tires. It was a lot of fun. I'll be doing more of that on my own since the group only rides together on Tuesdays. Lloyd is 85 years old. None of us can keep up to him.

 Upper body workout.
