I did the elliptical for 20 and some weight lifting.

Then I played racquetball with some buddies. It's gratifying to compete against people that are more out of shape than me. Even though my race times were non-stellar this year, I felt great through 4 games of racquetball whereas my rotund racquetball mates were completely flushed and out of breath all night long. They were sore for three days after we played last week whereas I was fresh as a daisy.

Yeah, comparing myself to the runners of FastRunningBlog can lead to numbing enervation. One must look at the big picture.

Okay, that's my profound wisdom expounded to ye folks this month.

30 Minutes on the elliptical. Just for kicks I ran 0.1 miles on the treadmill at a 6mph pace. It felt great to run but aftewards, my hip and knee are a little sore -- very discouraging. I'm still going to run a 5k or two in October, I just don't know how I'm going to train for longer races if this doesn't heal. I may have to go to the doctor that Tracy and Christina told me about.

For upper body work, I have the best thing -- 8 dumploads (120 yards) of steer manure on my front and back yards. It's really stinky but I try to spread about 3 yards per evening which really works my body. I should have about 2 months of such daily work to get it all spread out. The ammonia is really helping my respiratory too.

60 minutes hiking Mt. Mahogany. I got caught in a fast moving lightening storm and had to wait under a rock over-hang with my two scared dogs. It was "shocking" enough that Greg Wrubell mentioned it on the BYU pre-game show. That storm had interrupted his son's soccer game in Alpine.

7 hours hiking Wheeler Peak in Great Basin Ntl Park. It was beautiful there, a little more deserty than Timpanogos. The trail to the summit was only about 4.3 miles but somewhat steep at the end and the altitude killed me - about 1300 feet.

Smeagol and I almost had the place to ourselves. We saw three hikers and no crazy trail runners.
