What are burpies?

From Hildisvini on Mon, Jan 19, 2009 at 22:39:40

It's not what you were thinking...

From standing position, you do a squat thrust, one push-up while you are down, then back to squatting position and then jump up as high as you can.

One of the guys at work makes up a new routine every day. I think he makes up names for the exercises too. They kick my butt. I was supposed to do 15 of these but that would have taken too long and there would have been a log jam at the stationary bike.

10 days without going to 5 guys burgers and fries.

3 miles at Lake Park. I was grateful to be running. I overextended my hip on Saturday doing some skiing and was rather lame for a couple of days. But the old body still seems capable of regeneration.

Did you get away for the holiday weekend? How was the weather?

From Hildisvini on Wed, Feb 18, 2009 at 23:28:11

Went down with some friends to have a good time. The weather was fantastic (compared to here) Actually got to feel some sun on my face.

We got a demonstration from a chef from the Bouchon (Venetian restaurant) Panna Cotta, croisant a chocolat and other decadent unmentionables. I had to burn off as much as possible by running -- you know the routine.

Things are great! I still have a job, eh? Um, running is going fine too. I think I'm ahead of where I was this time last year.

I watch your blog. Looks like things are going well for you too. Thanks for keeping us up to date. Everyone else is so quiet. I don't even see Marie anymore at Lake Park.

Okay Draper it is. I'll show up if I have no conflicts that day.

Race: La Course du petit-dejeuner (3.2 Miles) 00:36:00

The 5.2K breakfast race is a fun run and warm-up run for the Paris Marathon. Not officially timed and free to everyone. Contrary to the web page directions, no registration was required. So it mostly just a fun run, somewhat uphill and over cobblestone roads.

The site seeing was fabulous, including a stone's throw from the Eiffle tower and ending at the Arc de Triomph. Sycamores and Chessnut trees lined the run and flowers are beginning to bloom in Paris. Weather has been extraordinary this week.

It was a much needed run after all the site seeing and pastry eating.

We are going to try another run to the top of the Eiffle tower. On Friday we were limited to the second platform, just over 1/3 the way up.

How cool is that? Let me answer: really cool.

From Hildisvini on Wed, Apr 08, 2009 at 16:27:26 from 65.121.182.3

Yes, it was very cool. You know those Parisian take keeping a good shape very seriously. Very hansom looking people -- riding bikes and walking everywhere.

They called it the breakfast run but the breakfast consisted only of a banana and water. Hmmm. I'm more accustomed to pancakes and sausage for breakfast, but ... perhaps I need to re-indoctrinated.

I hope the marathon course didn't go over any cobblestone streets though -- that, IMHO, was the main buggery of the French 5K.

Wow, sounds just divine!! Lucky you!
